I agree, I think it would have been better in the essay/rant to make the point to those men that they are confusing "nice" with being insecure.

I really liked the essay though. When I was a teenager I was a little bit like that. When I was in gradschool I had a housemate who could have been the inspiration for that essay. It was painful to watch him.

the heartless bitches had some points, but I gotta say, Sometimes nice is just nice! Not insecure, a pleaser, martyr, passive-aggressive, etc. It seems too bad to throw out a perfectly good word for a very good quality with the bathwater of neuroses that occasionally accompany "nice" behavior, IF I may torture (waterboard I guess it would be) a cliched metaphor to death.

Because often, people behave nicely because they are happy, getting what they want, secure and generous. It's not ALWAYS compensation, a trick or something else nasty that causes nice!

On a related note, another good article from
"Heartless Bitches International"

Why "Nice Guys" are often such LOSERS

I know there are personality traits that I think of "masculine" and "feminine", but I think this guy was stretching things by labeling being blunt, direct as
"masculine" and equating being criticized with being "emasculated".

I have to say that I found the article to be very insightful and I found the author to have a lot of tact with the way he answered that woman.

In regards to the thing about the Ostrich, sending the guy to jail for several months reveals the hypocrisy of our culture in regard to animals.

That Ostrich was going to be killed and end up on somebody's plate anyway. If the Ostrich industry is anything like the pig, cattle or chicken industry that Ostrich got a more merciful death by being shot. Given our culture and laws in regards to animals we make immune to cruelty laws since we label them as food, the most that guy should have gotten is a fine for destroying property and maybe trespassing.
